शेतीच्या उत्पादनात वाढ होण्यासाठी
शेतकरी रासायनिक खतांचा वापर मोठया प्रमाणावर करताना दिसून येतात. परंतु काही पिकांची उत्पादनवाढ तात्पुरत्या
स्वरुपाची किंवा काही काळासाठीच असते. याचे कारण असे की, आपण उत्पादनवाढीसाठी पिकाला रासायनिक खतांची गरजेपेक्षा अधिक मात्रा
देतो. परिणामी जर रासायनिक खतांना अधिक व सातत्याने वापर केल्यामुळे
जमिनीचा पोत बिघडतो. परिणामी जमिनीची उत्पादनक्षमता कमी होते. खतांचा वापर अधिक करावयाचा
झाल्यास पिकांना पाणीही मोठयाप्रमाणावर द्यावे लागते. त्यामुळे साहजिकच क्षारांचे प्रमाण वाढते; जमिनी
खार वाटतात.
कीटक नाशकांप्रमानेच औषधांचा
अधिकाधिक वापर करण्याकडे शेतकऱ्यांना ओढा असलेला दिसून येतो. भाजीपाला, फळे, कापूस इत्यादी पिकांना किडींचा उपद्रव होऊ नये म्हणून कीटकनाशके वापरली जातात. ही कीटकनाशके विषारी तर असतात.त्यामुळे उपद्रवकारक कीटक मरतात. त्याचप्रमाणे काही उपक्रम जीवजंतू ही बळी जातात. निसर्गातील काही जीवाणू वा कीटक शेतीसाठी अतिशय उपयुक्त असतात. गांडुळासारख्या जीवाणूस तर शेतकऱ्यांचा मित्रच म्हटले
जाते. अशा जिवाणूंना
अशा कीटकनाशकामुळे अपाय पोहचतो.
